Team Rocket designed the idea behind the game Graviton.

Unique Selling Propositon (USP)

The USP of Graviton is the in depth gravity manipulation. No other game lets the user change the direction of gravity as freely as you can in graviton.

Target Audience

Graviton is mainly targeted at casual gamers that like to solve puzzles with a time constraint. It is also aimed at physics enthusiasts that like to tinker with its rules.

In terms of the Brainhex Player Types, Graviton is mostly interesting for the mastermind type.

Premise

The protagonist enters an asteroid belt with its spacecraft. The ship gets damaged and is now on a collision course with a nearby moon. In order to escape the belt and not collide with the moon the protagonist has to repair various systems on the ship. He has to reach the them by solving puzzles in each room as well as moving rooms aroung to make new pathways. This is possible by the modular spacecraft.

When all the systems are repaired, the ship will be able to safe itself by outmaneuvering the moon and escaping the asteroid belt.

Objectives

The main goal of the game is to restore your spacecraft and get out of imminent danger.

To be able to restore the ship the player first has to collect all abilities and meanwhile repair some parts of the ship, like the engine, thrusters and the oxigen tank.

Procedures

The protagonist has to grap the graviton, a multifunctional glove, to start the game. At first he can only flip the gravity, turning everything upside down. By progressing the game, the rest of the rotation possibilities are being unlocked. The second ability is an interactive, holographic map of the spcaecraft, which allows the player to rearange parts of the ship. This will open up new ways and possibilities for the player.

Character

The main character of the game is an astronaut cat called Larry. At the beginning of the game Larry needs to find the Graviton Glove and Hologram Module.

Level Design

Graviton Tutorial Level: Key card is caught on the wall/ceiling so you can't get to it; you learn how to use the gravity changes.

Module Tutorial Level: The door to the next room is locked from the inside, there is no way to open it from the outside. You can move and combine 3 individual parts from a currently inaccessible part of the ship in such a way that you build a side passage from one airlock to the next airlock.

Oxygen level: spacesuit loses oxygen, oxygen can be replenished in some rooms but is limited; sooner or later the ship's oxygen system must be repaired to ensure permanent survival.

Core Rules

  1. Find Graviton Glove + Hologram Module.
  2. Solve Puzzles with your Graviton Glove to get to new rooms.
  3. Find enough oxygen till the oxygen generator is repaired.
  4. Survive Laser obstacles/turrets.
  5. Repair all damaged systems of the spaceship and return home safely.

Basic Resources

The main tool of the protogonist is the Graviton Glove. With the help of the Gravition, abiilities become accessable and thus God Mode can be enabled with the Hologram Module. It enables the manipulation of the gravitation and can change direction and strength of gravitation. Progress will grant you the time dilation/distortion to slow or fasten time to solve the levels. Abilities like the Gravity Ray, that will allow you to shoot your targets from afar and the Blackhole Imitator, that can be used to pick up items that are usually out of reach, can be used after receiving their respective upgrade module.

Oxygen is the most important resource for the protogonist. The Oxygen you carry with you, indicates the time you have left until you will suffocate. You then will respawn from your last checkpoint. To gain new oxygen you must reach the deceased astronauts that left their big oxygen containers that you can use to refill your O² Meter or find small oxygen containers from small ecosystems in bottles.

Conflict

The player must navigate through puzzles and solve them to reach an important item that can enable new abilities, new paths or gets you access to the next level. With time oxygen will deplete – If the oxygen runs out you are out of time and must restart from the last checkpoint. Not only time but also the enviroment is trying to stop you from making progress like Laser obstacles that will hurt the player and kill them if too much damage is taken. Enemies will hinder you to reach your goals too quickly but most of them will only shoot at you when you're in certain range. The turrets are comparibable with the turrets from Portal 2.

Game Look - Moodboard

The mood board should convey the look&feel of Graviton. The style is neither hyper-realistic nor strongly abstract, but finds the right balance.
