This is the Game Design concept from the Ligma Legends team

Concept

Story

You've just woken up from Cryosleep, and are trapped on a spaceship way off course, floating in space. Now your plan is to chart a way back to an habitable planet using just the information given by the ship's datalog.

Objective

The game is finished when you've steered your spaceship back on the right course.

Target Audience

The intended audience of this game is people who have an interest in puzzle and an unique spin of exploration style gameplay.

Game Mechanics

After waking up from Cryosleep you use the information given by the datalogs to set a new course of your spaceship. For instance, you could use triangulation to determine your approximate distance to another planet. Or find an incoming transmission giving you a hint where to set your course to.

After setting up your desired conditions, you then determine how long your next sleep cycle should be.

Your decided parameters, and the set time of sleep, determine how your game continues once you wake up again. You may have slept for too long and missed the right timing, or you may have set the wrong parameters and steered in the wrong direction again.


Example scenario:

Year 2621:

Upon awakening from cryosleep, you immediately notice a change in the environment. A meteor shower has damaged one of the thrusters. With only 4 RepairBots left, you decide to repair the thruster and set course towards 362/14 based on a previous weak signal. Then you go back into cryosleep.

Year 2624:

After completing the next sleep phase, you notice a change in the environment: an unexpected power source is detected by your spaceship's sensors. You analyze the data more closely and decide to approach the signal without leaving your spaceship.

As you get closer, you see a strange, abandoned space station. You investigate it from a safe distance and discover advanced technologies. Suddenly, an automated message warns you of an impending energy surge.

Do you change your course to avoid the imminent danger zone, potentially losing clues to your home, or do you take the risk in hopes that the danger isn't too great to find clues to your whereabouts?

Characters

Your player character is the only character in the game

Outcome

If everything input is done perfectly, you can finally end your journey through space and settle down on a new planet.

Game Interface

The Game Interface consists only of your ships console and all its dials, buttons and screens used to put in all your commands
